Learn interesting facts about the Renaissance, the legendary escape attempts from the prisoner of the war camp Oflag IV C, or the architectural history. Our tour guides will take you and show you the most impressive places, such as the castle chapel, the attic with the glider, or the escape tunnels.

The tours are suitable for adults as well as for children's groups. The content is tailored to the respective age groups. 

1,000 years of castle history - Guided Tour

The castle tour gives an overview of the diverse history of Colditz Castle. Find out interesting details about the historical buildings and moving fates from around 1,000 years of castle history. Learn more about the castle of Frederick the Wise, protector of Martin Luther, to the fates of prisoners during World War II and the castles use as a hospital in the late 20th century.

Legendary Escapes - Guided Tour (April to October)

Discover the “Legendary Escapes” of Colditz Castle through an exclusive Guided Tour. Immerse yourself in the authentic historical locations of the former POW camp Oflag IV C, including the Theater and the Pat-Reid-Cellar, which are not part of the museum experience. Uncover fascinating insights into the conditions of imprisonment under the Geneva Convention and the remarkable ingenuity of the imprisoned Allied officers. Follow the escapes of Airey Neave, Pat Reid and more.

We highly recommend this Guided Tour as an addition to your museum visit, as it offers experiences beyond what the museum covers.

The price includes the ticket for the museum with the Histopad. Please plan for an additional 90 minutes after the guided tour for your individual visit to the museum with the HistoPad.

Low-barrier Guided Tour

The Low-barrier Guided Tour enables handicapped and elderly guests to experience the ground floor level of the castle. Have a look inside the Chapel, the medieval electoral chambers and the gallery depot. Discover the upper floors digitally through the use of our HistoPad.

Not accessible for people in wheelchairs.
